Taiwanese fast-rising young conductor Brian (Yuan-Hung )Liao is a prizewinner of NTSO talented musician conducting competition in Taiwan, semi-finalist of RNCM junior fellowship and the orchestra prize of 3rd International Conducting competition for Chinese music in Hong Kong.
He is the Music Director of 1st International Keelung NTOU Music Festival, also he is assistant conductor in St.Gellert Music Festival in Hungary. He has assisted conductor such as, Susanne Mälläki with Helsinki Philharmonic and Alpaslan Ertüngealp with several major orchestras in Romania and Hungary.
In his upcoming season 2018/2019 includes debuts with National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Bahia Blanca Philharmonic Orchestra in Argentina, substitute conducting Oradea State Philharmonic and NTSO Symphonic Band Summer Music Festival; Invitations to participate at the 1st Nice International Conducting Competition, 3rd Nino Rota International Competition in Italy and 9th International Bucharest Conducting Competition.
In his brief conducting career so far, he has worked several major orchestras around the world, such as South Denmark Philharmonic, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, Lucern Festival Strings, Orchestra de la Opera Royal de Liege-Wallonie, George Enescu Philharmonic in Romania, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Budapest Danubia Obuda Orchestra, Szolnok Symphony Orchestra (Hungary), St.Gellert Festival Symphony Orchestra, Bad reichenhall Philharmonic, Mozarteum University Orchestra Salzburg, Taiwan Chinese Orchestra, ÖENM(Österreich Ensemble für Neue Musik), Kammerorchester Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Orchestra, Royal Northern College of Music Orchestra, Leopold Mozart Centre Wind Orchestra of Augsburg, Bavarian 3BA Brass band, Kagoshima Philharmonic (Japan), Bela Bartok Chamber Choir(Budapest), the Young Musician Foundation Orchestra of Singapore, among others.
He also participated in several international conducting masterclasses with distinguished conductors, such as Bernard Haitink at the Lucerne Festival,Jorma Panula at Nordic Masterclass, Jahannes Schlaefli at Radolfzell Sommer Akademie, Yip Wen-Sie and Christoph Poppen at HK international conducting masterclass and Alpaslan Ertüngealp in Szolnok Masterclass.
During the 2015-2016 season, he made his opera conducting debut in Salzburg with Britten’s opera “The Rape of Lucretia”, Mozart’s opera “La Finta Giardiniera” with Mozarteum University Chamber Orchestra and as the conducting assistant for Gernot Sahler in Tchaikovsky “Eugene Onegin".
In addition, in 2017 he is one of the 12 finalists out of more than 200 young conductors in the Leverhulme Conducting Fellowship in association with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
Currently he is pursuing his Master ́s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Salzburg Mozarteum University with a scholarship from the Taiwanese government and under the guidance of Bruno Weil, Alexander Drcar, Yoon Kuk Lee, Gernot Sahler (Opera Conducting), Reinhard Goebel (Early Music) and Karl Kamper (Choir Conducting).
